Porosity can be affected by MANY things, including heat damage, and more. The water test (on clean hair) and the shower test are two ways to help determine.
How does your hair take in water when you wash your hair? Does it easily absorb it? Does it dry up easily after moisturizing? That would be a sign of high porosity hair.
On the other hand, does it take a lot to absorb moisture? Once you’ve moisturized, does it last for a long time? If it doesn’t, you may have low porosity hair.
If your hair has low porosity, like mine, then that means your hair has a difficult time taking in and retaining moisture. The goal is to penetrate the cuticle of your hair. You need products (and techniques) that will help open your cuticles so you can retain length AND moisture.
Does your hair have none of these problems? You may have normal porosity hair.
