Your Good Protective Sis can last years if properly cared for. Let’s review a few tips and tricks that will ensure your unit is happy and healthy. 🙂
- Remove your wig at night. Store her in her natural condition or hang her on a wig stand. This is essential for maintaining the shape and/or curls of your unit and its crucial for preventing tangling. If you must sleep in your wig, then be sure to wrap her in a silk bonnet.
- Always detangle your unit with care. Use a wide-tooth comb for straight or wavy hair and for tighter curl units, just use your fingers. Always start at the ends and move your way up.
- Moisturize your wigs! Add a little luster by using products specifically formulated for wigs. Whether it’s a shine serum or spray, be sure to do so sparingly. Be mindful of products meant for natural or human hair. Some of those products have alcohol in them and alcohol tends to dry out the strands, causing the wig to eventually look dry and dull.
- Create a washing schedule for your unit but be careful not to wash too often. Always detangle first and select a moisturizer, shampoo, and/or conditioner specifically formulated for your unit. For our synthetic units, we’ve had great success (and saved money) reviving our units with laundry detergent and fabric softener (remember these are synthetic fibers).
